Gut rehabbed historic buildings turned into luxury apartments was 2019’s trend in Loop construction. These three luxury Loop apartment buildings opened in 2019 and were rehabbed historic buildings.
The Alfred by FLATS
The Alfred apartments (named after architect, Alfred Alschuler) opened in the former Hartman Building, which was built in 1925. To keep the character of the building, the exterior brick and terra-cotta were repaired and many of the historic interior fixtures, like elevator doors and lights, were salvaged and used in the current design.
The open layout apartments at The Alfred feature high, vaulted ceilings, in unit laundry, poured concrete or herringbone wood floors, with walk-in closets and dishwashers in select units. Residents have access to luxury functional amenities like the 13th floor lounge, a spacious outdoor terrace with seating and fire pits, and a coffee shop in the lobby.
Millennium on Lasalle
Each rental features stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, a dishwasher, a tiled kitchen backsplash, and premium Italian cabinets in the kitchen, marble bathroom tile, in unit washer and dryer, and hard surface floors. Layouts include ample storage space– even the efficiency studio floor plans include walk in closets. The apartments at Millennium on Lasalle are also pet friendly! Amenities include bike storage, co-working space with wifi, a movie theatre, dry-cleaning service, an expansive fitness center, an indoor multi sport court, a roof top pool with lounge space and grilling stations, a poker room, chef’s kitchen, dog wash, 24/7 maintenance, and more! Millennium on Lasalle opened in the heart of the financial district in the Loop in fall of 2019.
330 S. Wells
330 S. Wells is a newly rehabbed historic insurance building. The boutique style building has a quiet, community feel despite being so centrally located. Interior finishes are stunning, with quartz countertops, GE stainless steel appliances, modern cabinets, and tile flooring throughout each kitchen, Brizo and Kohler plumbing fixtures in each bathroom, and an in unit washer and dryer in each apartment. The 16 story building houses retail and office space in addition to rental apartments. Both commercial and residential tenants get access to the bike storage room, fitness center, and rooftop lounge. The rooftop is complete with grill stations, fire pits, a chef’s style “sky kitchen”, and an indoor sky lounge. The 5th floor also houses a chef’s style kitchen and lounge, as well as a yoga studio, conference room, and fitness center. Residents also enjoy controlled building entry, close proximity to the blue, red, and brown line CTA trains, and that these apartments are pet friendly.
